Asthma Education for the Community Health Worker (CHW)

Organization: Association of Asthma Educators (AAE)

AAE has developed this program to prepare entry-level community health workers (CHW) to effectively provide basic asthma management education. The curriculum provides participants with all core competencies needed to be asthma educators. The program is available to community and healthcare organizations with an interest in enabling staff and volunteers to improve the care and understanding of the disease for patients and families living with asthma.

  • Ensures that community health workers receive a consistent high-quality curriculum developed by Certified Asthma Educators

  • Provides an effective, nationally available low-cost program

  • Facilitates community health workers’ communication with clinical mentors for professional development.

While participants do not have to be CHWs, the program was designed specifically for the CHW audience.

There will be a final assessment to ensure retention of the curriculum. This is a 30 minute oral test. Participants who score 80% or higher on the final assessment may recieve a certificate of completion.

  • Quarterly training: $165 per person

  • Organizational trainings: $50 per participant

  • $650 honorarium for teacher
